i love granada. it is one of the most beautiful cities i have ever been in with its narrow streets and old buildings. everything about the city says quintessential old european city. you can walk across the city in about 30-45 minutes, so of course we did a lot of walking... i even had to throw away a pair of shoes because they were wrecked from the walking.
Tapas
so in a previous post i had written about the andalucían concept of tapas - pay around 2 euros and get a full plate of food. well granada is in the heart of andalucía so we had tapas about 3 times while in granada. tinto de verano for 2 euros includes delicious plates of food and great times.
alhambra
Granada was one of the last moorish strongholds and still has a lot of islamic culture and influence in the architecture, people, food and overall culture. One of the beauties is the alhambra. it is a fortress that has the palace of nasrid in the classic moorish style, the palace of charles V which is in renaissance fashion, the alcazaba which was the main military quarter and generalife which is like the summer guest house which is absolutely beautiful. i had visited the alhambra once before on our junior high trip to spain and portugal and remembered some of the main points but my favorite place was generalife and the house... it really is my dream house with huge gardens, archways, amazing views, balconies and fountains.
