i finally got to see some of madrid today. marc and i went to the Prado Museum which houses renaissance paintings, sculpture and other artwork. the building itself is pretty impressive as it was built in a palatial style and the artwork was of course amazing. personally, i am not a huge fan of renaissance work... i can only look at so many paintings of jesus and angels... but some of them were amazing. favorites were las picturas negras by Goya and La Familia de Carlos IV by Valezquez.
We then walked over to Retiro park. it is absolutely beautiful. at home, we say park and think of a dinky park with some grass and a jungle gym for the kids...but this one... had fountains, a man made lake, a cryetal palace, statues of falling angels, and of course some grass and a jungle gym. retiro is sebas' favorite spot in madrid and i don't blame him. i think i will be frequenting this park often to relax and cool off from the 40 degree madrid heat.
