my position in Spain is a set term of only 13 months - From June 1st 2009 - July 1st 2010. The first month of the position is dedicated to "Transition". Because of the fixed terms, there are complete executive teams that turnover each year on July 1st (yes close to 100% turnover every year!). The month of June is dedicated to transition.the format of transition is kind of like a month long conference. There is a full four week agenda that includes sessions for 6-8 hours a day. We have sessions with alumni, the entire group and individual transition from our predecessors. Our team needs to hit the ground running - it is the nature of the organization and the reality of the job. In order to be successful in this and to be effective immediately, the long days and the work is necessary.
Unfortunately, I don't have my visa for Spain yet. That means that I am participating in transition online (via skype). The agenda is generally from 10am - 7pm Spanish time. As I said in my previous post, this translates to 2am - 11am Edmonton time. I'm not alone in my nightly endeavors. Cynthia (Mexico), Sylvia (Costa Rica) and myself make up the "Virtual Girls" - yes it sounds like some sort of online porn site, but i assure you, its kosher.
the rest of the team is waiting for us in Madrid, but have made drawings of us! They are in the meeting rooms, go to lunch with the team and even go sightseeing in Madrid... those sheets of paper are sure living the life.
