it has definetly been a long time since i have done anything with this blog. posting seems to irrelevant, but! i had a request from a friend (danny, probably the only person that reads this), so i had to oblige. but dont expect any fancy wording or clever phrases - i'm not that kind of girl

whats been going on with me? i got a new job! im working at a large telecommunications company for an 8 month co op term. although the pay leaves something to be desired, it has been a good experience. i actually have real tasks and responsibilities and am learning a lot in terms of team and project management. Although my degree is in international business and HR, this job is all about supply chain and procurement. yea, i know, what a match eh? but! one part of our team is outsources to a company in india... so i guess that is the link i need?

going along with outsourcing - i changed the focus of my degree from marketing to HR. sitting in a board room in Toronto (twiddling my thumbs and day dreaming), i realized that i dont want to do marketing - i dont want to sell and i dont want to make advertisements selling half truths and euphimisms. i might be semi good at it, but its not what i want. fact of life: its all about globalization. the new trend hitting the business world is outsourcing. having a degree in HR and intl business is exactly what i need and what to do! even some random small plumbing company in saskatoon has international links - fact of life baby.

Another fact of life is that i do not have enough hours in the day. the reason for this could be that i am not using my time to the fullest - i probably could be way more effective and productive, but i cherish those times when i can mindlessly surf the net or watch trashy reality shows on mtv - my mind needs a break! (probably why im posting in my blog instead of doing work at work right now!)

the reason why i don't have enough time in the day? work and aiesec. being lcp has definetly increased the amount of time i spend on booking my calendar. that google calendar has probably never seen so many meetings. don't get me wrong, i like going to meetings and talking to people (prefer it over e-mails) but it takes time... something that i'm running low on. you know its bad when you barely see your family, and you live in the same house as them!

the really interesting thing about being lcp though, is that i'm learning SO much! there is a stigma that you go into this term as president expecting to impart YOUR knowledge and guide YOUR team. but it really isn't like that. learning to lead and be apart of a high performing team is tough! so i'm trying to learn from my managers at work, trying to read as much as i can in ways to be effective and talk to as many people as i can. i think that the way we do things are getting old, and we need some fresh, new and innovative ideas to liven things up! its not about completely throwing everything old out the window, but creating a version 2.0 for it... or even 3.0! why not lead the way, why not create the change, why not be innovative? because its hard? thats bull shit.... hard shit builds character :) (but if literally have hard shit.....go see a doctor!)

this all doesn't mean im not having any fun - i sure as hell am. being so busy makes me really appreciate the time i get to spend doing random and fun stuff. going bowling, karaoke, to the bar, seeing people outside of aiesec, everything - it just satisfies so much more than the "i feel like getting drunk this weekend" feeling. it makes you feel like there is more outside of your bubble and makes you want more.

speaking of going outside my bubble - the new plan is to try and finish most of my degree by april 2009 and actually graduate on time. that means 14 classes in a year. is it possible? ask me in april 2009. i also want to try and go to brazil in august for international congress. what are the chances of me going? no clue! but it cant hurt to try!
