I am finally off to Spain! The adventure is about to begin and I cant even imagine everything in store this year. But let’s talk about the crazy travelling it took to get here. My flight plan was Edmonton – Minneapolis – Amsterdam – Madrid
Edmonton, Canada
After having a teary eyed goodbye with my mom, going through customs in Edmonton and walking to my gate, Natalia Socha calls my name! Her brother and herself found super cheap tickets to Tokyo, Japan and were on their way there. We were on the same flight to Minneapolis and had the same layover.
Minneapolis, USA
It was nice to have Natalia and her brother Patrick as company during the three and a half hour layover. Grabbed some lunch and played some crazy eights – such a small world running into people like that in the airport. My flight to Amsterdam was supposed to leave at 3;10pm. First some guy on the plane left his documents in the airport and the plane had to drive back to the gate. THEN! The pilot discovered there were mechanical problems with the plane and so we pulled back into the gate again to have the mechanics board, parts replaced and the engine re-started twice. In the end, we left after 5:00pm local time. Of course the AC wasn’t working either, so the 32˚C exterior weather was seeping into the plane that was stuffed full of people – a hot mess.
Somewhere over the Atlantic
The cute little Dutch lady sitting next to me was telling me about how she hosted a Spanish foreign exchange student 10 years ago and how the student was from Madrid and super nice. She then provided to give me all of the contact details for this random exchange student that is probably 40 now… random
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Other than entertaining a super cute baby in the terminal, nothing exciting happened. There were virtually zero customs/immigration in the airport – just a stamp on my passport … so easy. I made a friend on the plane – an American teacher who was chaperone to a bunch of high school kids who were doing home stays in Spain to improve their Spanish.
Madrid, Spain
Most of the team was there to great me at the airport when I arrived. Its good to be in my new home.
Tomorrow we are off to Villaba, Spain (Outside of Madrid) for a week for Team Days – we will bond, set expectations and business plan like no tomorrow. Oh and also swim and eat BBQ

Glad to hear you made it safe and sound!
I only say one thing, beware of the mean BBQ sauce that Luci's dad makes, you'll never want to stop eating :)
oh, and HAVE FUN! :)
Oh the joys of Europe and their completely slack customs! I don't have a single European stamp on my passport because when I arrive in Copenhagen I just walked out and no one in customs stopped me or anything :-P
